Here are a few examples of Playtivism formats that we at Fine Acts have conceptualized. Situated at the intersection of activism and various other disciplines, they are powerful, joyful, and delightfully surprising.
Our formats

LABS
LABS is our format that matches artists with technologists to work on small-scale, high-impact interdisciplinary projects. The two-person teams collaborate over a weekend to prototype ideas that raise awareness or provide solutions to a specific social or environmental issue. Teams are briefed by experts in the respective field and supported by a wide pool of mentors. A jury awards one idea with a grant for further development, and we at Fine Acts get to produce it (examples include Beat. on domestic violence; Fakery on fake news). The blueprints for all solutions are published under an open license. See an example of our most recent edition of LABS on climate justice, where journalists and defenders briefed teams of artists and technologists, who then prototyped solutions and concepts over a weekend.

SPRINTS
SPRINTS are our unique bootcamps where creatives are briefed by experts, and then have 48 hours to produce illustrations on a specific issue. All works are then published under an open license, making them freely available for any activist, nonprofit, group, movement, or educator to use or adapt non-commercially. The impact of this format is four-fold: it nurtures participating artists and connects them to important issues and movements; it invigorates local communities through exhibitions and discussions; it empowers groups worldwide by providing free, open-license artworks; it inspires global audiences to take action with each new use of the works. Since our first SPRINT in 2019, we've completed over 40 editions of the format around the world. Recently, we held a series of 22 SPRINTS on climate across 20 countries worldwide.

ART/ICLE
ART/ICLE is our newest cross-disciplinary creative format that matches journalists with artists and facilitates their collaboration over a month. The goal is for artists to produce various creative outputs that amplify the journalistic work and the issues it highlights – with outputs ranging from video and animation to visual art, public art installations, street art campaigns, and more.

REBEL ATELIER & CIVIC ATELIER
We have conceptualized two formats, Rebel Atelier and Civic Atelier, as spaces to respectively "design protest" and “design engagement”, and develop blueprints for novel, captivating, impactful, and subversive methods of dissent or civic participation. The two Ateliers bring together defenders, artists, designers, creative practitioners, theater directors, musicians, architects, chefs, and more to create visionary tools, tactics, methods, and products centered around protest or engagement. Everything developed is shared under an open license, ensuring wide accessibility and inspiring global participation – while selected concepts are also produced and piloted by Fine Acts.
